Panic on the Metro but cause is a mystery
A man caused disruption on Metro Line 10 yesterday, resulting in many passengers panicking and running along the train, the Metro operator said.
Online posts about the incident claimed people dropped phones and bags on the carriage near Longxi Road station during the panic. But what the man, whom some speculated was mentally ill, had done remains a mystery.
The Metro operator later said he had acted strangely on the train and somehow had started a panic among other passengers.
Some passengers posted that they didn’t know why they started running, they just followed the crowd, comparing the scene to the Korean zombie movie “Train to Busan.”
“I was sleepy at my seat, when I suddenly saw a crowd of people running toward us,” an unidentified passenger said online. “My friend immediately said we should follow them and we ran with the crowd.” He added that “hundreds of people” were running along the train.
Metro police later inspected the train when it arrived at Shuicheng Road station but nothing amiss was discovered.
