A MUSICAL based on the case of a Shanghai student who stabbed his mother at Pudong International Airport over a financial dispute had its premiere in Qingpu Prison yesterday, as part of efforts to educate inmates through cultural initiatives.
The attack occurred in 2011, and the student, surnamed Wang, was jailed for three and a half years. At his trial, Wang’s mother begged leniency for her son. The Shanghai Institute of Visual Arts was invited to perform the drama, “Mama, Love Me Once Again” at the prison to encourage inmates to reconcile with their families. It will play at other jails under Shanghai Prison Bureau.
