‘Mercy killing’ toddler has brain surgery
THE 18-month-old boy with severe brain damage whose parents asked for mercy killing underwent successful surgery at the Children’s Hospital of Fudan University yesterday.
Xiong Junyi from Anhui Province suffered multiple injuries last month after getting stuck in a conveyer belt at the factory where his father works. His parents had asked the hospital in the hometown and local civil affairs bureau for a mercy killing because they couldn’t bear to see him suffer. Doctors said he will need a long time to recover.
