Gasoline, diesel prices up 5% at pumps

FUEL prices in Shanghai will be higher from today after the government announced a price hike in line with the rising cost of crude oil.

The top price for 92-octane gas will rise 5.2 percent to 6.28 yuan (US$1) per liter from 5.97 yuan, while a liter of 95-octane will climb to 5.2 percent to 6.69 yuan from 6.36 yuan. The new price of diesel will be 5.91 yuan per liter, up from 5.59 yuan.

The government increased gas prices by 390 yuan per ton and diesel prices by 375 yuan per ton, the National Development and Reform Commission said yesterday. Fuel prices are adjusted every two weeks based on global markets.
