POLICE said yesterday they recently confiscated 223 boxes of illegal fireworks found in a property in Chenjia Town, Chongming Island. Since the start of the year, 44 people have been detained for firework-related offenses, while fines totalling 62,000 yuan (US$9,400) have been issued and more than 5,500 boxes of fireworks and firecrackers have been seized.
