FamilyMart store closed after rat seen
A FamilyMart store in a Metro station was closed yesterday after a rat was seen on top of boxes of pre-made food.
The convenience store in the Line 2 West Nanjing Road station was closed for rectification and all food in the store will be destroyed.
The action followed an online posting of the rat on Tuesday night. An online user, identified as “Liyudai,” posted the rat pictures. She said she took the photos in the store at about 7:30pm after going to buy a drink there.
On Wednesday morning, the store was shut and a posted note stated “internal rectification.” Most products on the shelves had been removed.
Pest control and local market supervision officials also launched inspection in the store yesterday.
Officials with the market supervision authority ordered the store to destroy the contaminated food, and the Patriotic Health Campaign Committee Office instructed staff at the FamilyMart to disinfect the store.
FamilyMart said it had launched internal rectification immediately. It added the store had suspended operation, and food in the store had been removed and would be destroyed.
The statement added the store would be reconstructed to add rat-proof ceilings, and to enhance protection for wires and pipes in the store.
The city’s Metro operator told Shanghai Daily that it regularly used a professional company to exterminate rats or pests in the Metro network.
