Drugs ‘found in man’s body’ at airport
AN African drug smuggler, who had swallowed nearly 390 grams capsules of heroin, was caught at Pudong airport, customs officials said yesterday. They added this was the first case discovered this year of a human body being used for drug trafficking.
The suspect allegedly arrived in Shanghai on May 3 via a flight from Africa. He had been spotted behaving suspiciously and was asked to undergo an X-ray examination. It showed suspected drugs in his abdomen.
After further examination in a local hospital, the suspect allegedly admitted that he was asked to swallow 30 pieces of “illegal medicine” by a man in his own country in exchange for payment if he then flew to China.
The suspect also told officials that the drugs had been in his body for more than 24 hours.
Because his life was in danger, he was quickly transferred to Shanghai Prison General Hospital.
The suspect excreted 30 pieces of capsules, which were packaged in plastic paper. It was later confirmed that 389.68 grams of heroin were found.
