Drug firm employee jailed over Pfizer leak

A FORMER employee of a drugs company has been sentenced to three-and-a-half years in prison for stealing confidential research reports belonging to American pharmaceutical company Pfizer.
Wu Guang worked for a Shanghai-based company that conducts research and produces reports for Pfizer, the Pudong New Area People’s Court said yesterday.
He was found guilty of stealing several such documents in September and October 2010 and publishing them online the following March, after he had left the company.
Pfizer discovered the leak in December 2011 and reported the matter to police.
Wu was detained soon after, while a search of his home yielded a disk drive containing several of the leaked materials.
Pfizer said it spent more than 2.6 million yuan (US$419,000) on the research and reports stolen by Wu, though it has not yet filed a civil suit for compensation, the court said.
Wu said he was dissatisfied with the verdict, but his application to appeal it was rejected by the Shanghai No. 1 Intermediate People’s Court.
