Dirty toilets, grumpy docs top patients’ list of gripes

DIRTY toilets, overinflated bills and the poor bedside manner of doctors are the top three gripes of hospital outpatients, according to a poll published yesterday.

Inpatients, meanwhile, are most upset by the high cost of treatments and poor quality, overpriced food, the survey said.

The claims were made by the Shanghai Medical Ethos Association and Fudan University, following a poll of 15,000 patients at 103 public hospitals.

“We have offered suggestions to help hospitals resolve patients’ concerns, such as cutting out unnecessary checks and procedures to help lower people’s bills,” said Fan Guanrong, director of the medical association.

Despite the survey’s findings, the overall satisfaction rate among hospital patients in the city has been rising in recent years, an unnamed health official told Shanghai Daily yesterday.
