Deflowering virgin costs love cheat 30,000 yuan

A MARRIED man who had sex with a virgin was ordered to pay her 30,000 yuan (US$4,900) compensation for violating her “virginity right,” the Pudong New Area People’s Court said yesterday.

The case was the first of its kind in the city, the court said.

According to prosecutors, the victim, surnamed Chen, 35, made friends with a man, surnamed Li, online five years ago. Last September, the pair began dating. Li told Chen he was a bachelor, and during a trip to Singapore, the couple had sex.

Three months later, Li said he wanted to break up with Chen and ended all contact with her.

In February, Chen broke into Li’s home in the Pudong New Area, and found him with his wife.

Li’s wife said they were married in January 2013, and Chen realized she had been duped.

Chen filed a lawsuit on March 26, accusing Li of violating her virginity by deception.

Despite agreeing to have sex with Li before marriage, Chen said in court that she took relationships very seriously.

She demanded a written apology and 500,000 yuan compensation.

Li did not appear in court but his attorney said Chen had no evidence to support her claims. The attorney said Li had been serious about Chen when they dated, but said his client denied having sex with the woman.

The court ruled that Chen deserved a written apology, but awarded her only 30,000 yuan compensation.

In China, virginity is associated with the notion of personal purity, honor and worth, and should be protected by law, the court said. By taking Chen’s virginity, Li brought about a negative influence on her health and reputation, it said.
