Call for standard on portable chargers
THE city’s consumer watchdog is calling for a national standard for portable phone chargers, after tests found problems with 40 models.
A product made by Shenzhen Yingxinli Science and Technology Co, for instance, was found to be less than half as effective as advertised, the Shanghai Consumer Rights Protection Commission said.
Products made by Philips and Newmine had similar problems, while others broke easily if dropped, it said.
The 40 items were bought online for between 59 yuan (US$9.60) and 359 yuan.
Regulation is needed as soon as possible, as the lack of a specific standard for portable phone chargers has led to a chaotic market, according to the commission.
