Bureau to probe use of police van as taxi
PUBLIC security officials are investigating an incident in which a police van was used to pick up four police officers at Pudong International Airport after returning from their holiday.
“An initial investigation found that four Qingpu District public security bureau officers returned from their holiday on May 20. They contacted their colleagues to pick them up,” Qingpu District police said in a statement on Weibo.
“The bureau has begun a further investigation into the case,” it said.
The incident came to light after an Internet user posted images of the van waiting outside the airport’s arrivals lounge with its emergency light flashing.
An alleged witness claimed to have seen two women carrying duty free shop bags and getting into the van.
The use of police vehicles for private purposes is a breach of regulations, and violators can be punished.
An Internet user said: “It was bad enough that they used a police vehicle for their own purposes, but to put the lights on made it worse.”
