Blacklist of unruly air passengers planned
CHINA Eastern Airlines has joined other national carriers in appealing to the nation’s civil aviation regulator to establish a blacklist of misbehaving passengers “as soon as possible,” a senior official with the airline said yesterday.
Those on the blacklist will not be issued flight tickets by the carriers. The list was necessary to deter those breaking the civil aviation regulation, said Ma Xulun, general manager of Shanghai-based China Eastern Airlines, also a national legislator.
Ma made the plea following a series of incidents involving airborne Chinese passengers in recent months. In one case, a passenger opened the emergency exit doors of a plane because of a flight delay, while another made hoax bomb calls which forced the aircraft to make an emergency landing.
“Such incidents have been rampant and the industry must take measures to prevent them from happening again,” Ma told Shanghai Daily on the sidelines of a meeting in Beijing.
Ma said while the details were being worked out those who illegally open emergency exit doors, or threaten airlines or crew members, damage equipment in the plane, will be blacklisted.
“The Civil Aviation Administration of China has begun evaluating the blacklist system. I hope it is put in place very soon,” he said.
Ma said China Eastern had issued a lawyer’s notice to two passengers who opened emergency exit doors of a plane when it was taxiing, forcing the plane to abort takeoff in January.
