Bakery chain Farine’s top rep flees China
FRENCHMAN Franck Pecol, the local representative of bakery chain Farine that was busted for using out-of-date wheat flour, has fled China one day after being questioned by the market watchdog.
Reports said he left the country for France on Tuesday.
Police from the Minhang District, where Farine’s headquarters and factory is located, said they have confiscated 2,300 packs of expired wheat flour.
Usually, a pack of flour weighs 25 kilograms, which can be used to make 1,100 to 1,200 croissants, a baker surnamed Huang told Shanghai Daily.
Minhang prosecutors have intervened in the case, launching an investigation of their own.
Eight other Farine executives have been placed under "coercive measures," which can lead to summons by force, bail, residential surveillance, detention and arrest.
The four outlets in Xuhui and Huangpu districts and the Pudong New Area have been shut.
Farine’s bread and desserts, especially croissants, were favored by Shanghai citizens and foreigners despite their high price.
