Aircraft part falls from sky

THE Civil Aviation Administration of China has confirmed that a metal object found in a patio of a company in Songjiang District belonged to an aircraft.
The triangle metal part, about 70 centimeters long on its sides, reportedly dropped from the sky at around 3am, and hit the patio of the Fusheng company on Minyi Road in Xinqiao Industrial Zone. No one was injured.
Aviation officials confirmed it belonged to an aircraft. “The administration is investigating which aircraft and airlines it belongs to,” said an official, who added that the object most likely was the cover of an undercarriage.
Zhou Jisheng, a former aircraft designer, told Shanghai Daily that it most likely came from the right cabin door of the front undercarriage of a Boeing 777 aircraft. He said it posed no danger to the aircraft.
He said the cover closes like a door that cuts off air after the undercarriage folds up. The dropped part is a small cover for the undercarriage, so there was no threat to the aircraft.
Spring Airlines told Shanghai Daily none of its aircraft had lost any parts.
