8 years’ jail over revenge arrow attack
A FOOD delivery man who shot a security guard in the face with a bow-and-arrow has been jailed eight years for attempted murder, the Shanghai No.1 Intermediate People’s Court said yesterday.
The killing was sparked by a small dispute on November 3, 2015, when the security guard surnamed Ren stopped the man surnamed Hong as he tried to deliver food to clients in an office building and was riding his motorcycle through an alley in the complex.
The pair quarrelled and two of Ren’s colleagues came to his aid. The three beat Hong.
Police intervened and Hong was given 300 yuan (US$43) in compensation.
But the next afternoon, he returned and shot Ren in the face, the court heard.
He fled, but police track him down to his home.
China has strict laws against bows-and-arrows and the court said Hong’s actions posed a severe social threat. The court gave him a lighter sentence because he paid Ren compensation.
