8 arrests for recruitment scam
EIGHT people suspected of running a bogus recruitment agency scam have been arrested, the Putuo District People’s Procuratorate said yesterday.
They swindled nearly 10,000 yuan (US$1,610) from more than 20 people by demanding fees to get them public relations jobs, said prosecutors.
According to prosecutors, one of those arrested, surnamed Song, was employed by a local club to recruit public relations staff in October last year.
However, it claimed that in May Song employed seven people and got them to pose as interview managers and training managers.
Interview managers posted ads online and organized for applicants to attend interviews, it is claimed.
They charged applicants fees of up to 800 yuan for uniforms and ID cards before passing them on to the bogus training managers, said prosecutors.
Training managers told victims they had to give cash or gifts to team leaders in order to get jobs, it is claimed.
