16 students injured in bus crash

SIXTEEN students — 14 of them girls — were slightly injured early yesterday morning when their bus and a crane were involved in an accident on the Zhouzhu Highway, police said.
Most of the injuries were to the face or the limbs, Pudong Hospital staff said.
Two of the injured were held for observation and another has been transferred to another hospital.
Officials from Zhoupu High School, affiliated with the East China Normal University, said a crane knocked the top of the bus.
This caused the driver to swerve and slam into a tree on the roadside.
Hospital staff said the students were not wearing safety belts, despite city regulations making them mandatory on expressways or highways.
