13 held on prostitution charges
THE owner of a brothel in Minhang District, and 12 of his associates and customers were taken into custody last week, police said yesterday.
The head of the gang, surnamed Peng, and key associates Wang and Hou were among six people detained for providing prostitution services, and who will later stand trial, police said.
Seven others, none of whom were named, were given administrative detention or fines, police said.
Wang and Hou controlled several prostitutes and offered their services to a closed circle of customers whom they contacted via WeChat and text message. Peng’s villa was used as a location for their sexual liaisons, according to police.
The 13 people were held following a raid by 30 police officers on April 16.
Peng said he began using the villa for prostitution on March 25 after his former brothel, which masqueraded as a sauna, was closed in a police crackdown.
