Warmer, smog-free weekend forecast
A HAZE-FREE weekend with temperatures reaching 16 degrees Celsius is forecast by the Shanghai Meteorological Bureau.
Today, the city will be sunny, under the influence of a high pressure front, following the departure of the cold front that dominated yesterday. There will be a chilly start to the day with the low in downtown dipping to 2 degrees Celsius. But as the sun climbs higher, the mercury will reach 10 degrees.
The weekend will see some cloud though southerly winds will disperse pollutants, according to bureau officials.
Tomorrow, temperatures are forecast to range from 5 and 14 degrees, and on Sunday between 10 and 16 degrees.
But it will cloud over late Sunday and drizzle is forecast Monday and Tuesday, with the high falling to 10 degrees by Tuesday.
Yesterday morning, the air quality index was above 200 between 5am and 9am — heavily polluted — before dropping to 100 — lightly polluted — by evening.
Tiny PM2.5 pollutants reached levels of 160 micrograms per cubic meter yesterday, more than six times the World Health Organization safe limit of 25.
