Storm sees 157 flights canceled
MORE than 150 flights were canceled and nearly 800 delayed at Shanghai’s two airports yesterday as tropical storm Fung-Wong reached the city.
The Pudong International Airport at the coast was more severely affected, with 98 flights canceled and 458 delayed.
Meanwhile, 59 flights were canceled and 327 delayed at the Hongqiao International Airport.
Most delayed flights had to wait between two to four hours to take off at the Pudong airport in the afternoon, while others were delayed by over four hours, the Shanghai airport authority said.
Long lines of passengers were seen waiting at ticket desks at the Pudong airport.
Many airlines issued notices asking passengers to check in and then wait at boarding gates for further information.
The delayed flights began taking off normally again after 6pm as the rainstorm and winds weakened.
