Self-service check-in at Hongqiao

HONGQIAO International Airport yesterday installed two self-service luggage check-in machines in a trial operation aimed at cutting waiting times, Shanghai Airport Authority said.

Passengers can avoid queues by checking in their luggage at the machines, according to the authority.

The machines are situated near the No. 17 and 18 check-in counters of the local carrier Juneyao Airlines. Other airlines will be served by similar machines in future, the authority said.

Passengers can put their luggage into the machine after scanning their identity card.

A label displaying the passenger’s flight information will be printed out to be placed on their luggage.

The service is not yet available for passport holders.

The airport authority said the luggage would go through the same security processes as those at check-in counters.

Pudong airport has 12 such self-service machines for both Spring and Juneyao airlines.
