Metro to stay open for longer

SEVEN Metro lines will extend night operating hours from this Friday.

Lines 1, 2, 7, 8, 9, 10 will extend the schedule by 70 to 80 minutes on Friday and Saturday nights and the night before national holidays.

Lines 10 and 16 will extend their operating hours by 25 and 30 minutes respectively through Sunday to Thursday.

Stations in downtown on lines extending their operating hours will open until midnight over weekends, the Metro operator said. “The average operating hours of the lines involved will reach more than 18 hours,” said Shao Weizhong, deputy president of the Metro company.

Furthermore, Line 16 will extend its operation by half an hour through Sunday to Thursday, with train intervals of some 10 minutes during the extended period.

Line 10’s operating hours will extend through the whole week. From Sunday to Thursday, operating hours of the entire line will extend by 25 minutes; and for Friday, Saturday and nights before major national holidays, the operating hours on the section between Xinjiangwancheng to Hongqiao Railway Station will extend by a further 80 minutes.

Line 2 will extend operating hours by 70 minutes, except for the Guanglan Road to Pudong airport section.

Lines 1, 7, 8 and 9 will extend operating hours by 80 minutes. Extra time on Line 7 concerns the section between Qihua Road and Huamu Road stations, and on Line 9 between Sheshan and Middle Yanggao Road stations.

Bus routes running near stations staying open later will extend operating hours to match the Metro changes.

The Metro operator said it had launched exercises last week to ensure it could cope with the timetable extensions.
