Metro exit shut down for repairs
AN exit at Shanghai Metro Line 8’s Siping Road Station was closed for inspection and repairs after the ceiling of a passage caved in on Friday afternoon, Shanghai Television Station reported yesterday.
Three people were walking into the affected passage when it happened, but no one was injured.
A maintenance worker told the television station that the collapse was caused by water leakage, which is believed to have corroded the ceiling’s support structure.
Strong winds on Friday are believed to have triggered the collapse.
Repair work on the ceiling, which was installed six years ago, is underway and the work is expected to be completed before this morning’s rush hours.
