Fallen leaves on eight roads inside Xuhui to be kept till Dec. to retain seasonal scenery

XUHUI District authority has ordered street cleaners to stop sweeping eight of its roads of fallen leaves and kept them till mid-December to help retain the seasonal scenery.

The roads, such as Wukang, Hunan, Yongfu, Yuqing, and Yueyang, are all within Hengshang-Fuxing road historic scenic protection zone, where many of the city's historic buildings, villas and celebrities' former residences are located.

Sanitation workers are told only to remove wastes daily while leaving the fallen leaves on these streets and the practice will be kept till December 16.

A photo competition will also be held through the end of the year to invite the public to take photos of the sceneries of historic streets covered with fallen leaves. The roads are all lined with luxuriant, aged plane trees on both sides.

The practice is part of the district's Hengfu Art Season which kicks off this week.
