Cold, polluted Christmas for city

BRACE for a cold Christmas Eve with the air quality polluted, forecasters warned yesterday.

There will be a brief respite from the rains today with the temperature ranging between 7 and 12 degrees Celsius, the Shanghai Meteorological Bureau said yesterday.

It will be cloudy to overcast today.

However, there may be light haze in the morning today due to high humidity and weak wind. There may also be issues with visibility due to fog.

The air quality would be slightly polluted in the morning, but good to slightly polluted in the afternoon.

But the rains will be back tomorrow with temperatures between 10 and 13 degrees Celsius. A cold front is expected to hit the city on Thursday with the temperature dropping below 10 degrees. It will be overcast with slight drizzle.

The cold front will bring in pollutants from north China and the air quality would be moderately polluted or light haze on Thursday and Friday.

It should be cloudy on Friday, with the temperature further dropping to a low of 4 degrees and high of 7.
