Cold front brings relief from heat
A cold front from the north will bring Shanghai’s heat wave to an end today, forecasters said, with the high dropping to around 30 degrees Celsius and the low to 25 degrees. Occasional showers and good air quality are expected over the weekend.
Tropical Storm Lionrock is expected to hit Japan and northeastern China today, but Shanghai will not be directly affected.
Yesterday marked the end of the 40-day sanfu period — the hottest days of summer in the Chinese lunar calendar.
This has been a particularly hot summer in Shanghai, which has had 29 high-temperature days — over 35 degrees Celsius, according to the Shanghai Meteorological Bureau.
Two residents have died this summer from heat stroke and hospitals have seen a sharp rise in the number of patients with heat-related health problems.
