Chongming highway to be updated
THE western part of Chenhai Highway that runs round the south of Chongming Island is being revamped after 17 years.
Shanghai Road Administration Bureau said at the weekend that one lane in each direction of the four-lane road would be shut down between Sanshuang Highway and the western end of Miaogang Bridge at various times through to September, when the project is scheduled to be finished.
The bureau said traffic won’t be much affected because the 11-kilometer-long western part of the highway was much less crowded than the eastern section. The project will involve asphalting the road and repairing and improving facilities such as drainage and railings.
Three towns — Gangxi, Miaozhen and Sanxing — are located by this part of the highway. The bureau said it would ensure that construction companies liaised effectively with residents on developments.
The bureau said there were no plans to renovate the eastern part of the highway because its condition was satisfactory.
