Local health watchdog issues alert over infectious diseases during winter
WINTER being synonymous with infectious diseases, especially respiratory ailments, Shanghai’s health watchdog is warning people to take extra precautions while urging health officials to enhance monitoring of the various weather-linked maladies.
The large movement of people during the New Year holiday and Spring Festival makes winter and spring the peak season for respiratory infectious diseases.
The Shanghai Health and Family Planning Commission has therefore marked out places like schools, construction sites, animal farms and nursing homes for the elderly as key to preventing the spread of such diseases.
It has also asked local hospitals to report cases with suspicious symptoms like fever, vomiting and diarrhea to disease control centers.
The health authority will also encourage people like medical staff, the elderly and those suffering from chronic diseases to go in for flu and pneumonia vaccination.
