Autumn leaves carpet the roads

IT’S a romantic but a relatively new notion. The fallen leaves.

In a bid to make the city look more beautiful, golden autumn leaves are left on the road.

This year, the number of so-called “landscaped” roads has been increased by six to 18, covering seven districts. The newly added roads are Longxi Road and Xinhua Road in Changning District, Siping Road in Hongkou District, Wencheng Road and Guyang Road in Songjiang District and Huale Road in Qingpu District.

The most common trees along these roads include the plane tree, maidenhair tree and goldenrain tree.

According to the greenery authority, sanitation staff will clean the roads everyday, but leave the fallen leaves. The leaves will only be swept in rainy or foggy days for safety concern, or when there is large scale activities.
