Travel website names 2 city parks among top 10 in country

TWO Shanghai parks have been rated among China’s top 10 by travel review website TripAdvisor.

Binjiang Avenue in the Pudong New Area was fifth in the listing based on reviews on TripAdvisor, the world’s biggest travel website, while Fuxing Park in Huangpu District was eighth.

Created in 1909, Fuxing Park is a French-style park that features formal flowerbeds, lawns and fountains. It was renovated in 2006 and now boasts more than 170 varieties of plants.

One comment on the website said the Fuxing Park “is very pretty and is distinguished from others because it is not a typical Chinese garden.”

“It is designed in the French style and is very nice. This is a good place for a break from the city rush,” the reviewer added.

Binjiang Avenue — also known as Riverside Promenade — is different from traditional parks because it has no boundary, the Shanghai Greenery and Public Sanitation Bureau said.

One comment said “the avenue is peaceful and a walk along the river lets you understand just how much this river means to Shanghai and its growth and history.”

The 2,500-meter-long promenade, created in 1997, links Taidong Road and Dongchang Road.

Nan Lian Garden in Hong Kong topped the TripAdvisor list.
