Shanghai Disney Resort reveals float design for opening parade of city tourism festival

SHANGHAI Disney Resort today revealed the design of its “Grand Opening Float” for the opening parade of the 2016 Shanghai Tourism Festival.

The float was designed to celebrate its grand opening on June 16 and introduce the resort’s attractions and entertainment, the resort said.

It is the third time that the resort participates in the city’s annual tourism festival. It has been voted the “most popular float” in the last two year's events.

The multi-level float will present highlights of the attractions and entertainments at resort. It features the icons of the six themed lands at the Shanghai Disneyland.

The centerpiece of the float is a glittering golden replica of the resort’s Enchanted Storybook Castle - the largest castle in any Disney park or resort around the world.

Thirteen popular Disney Characters — including Mickey Mouse and the stars from the new hit animated film Zootopia — will grace the decks of the float, waving to viewers along the parade route, according to the resort.

Dozens of dancers who wear Shanghai vintage-style costumes will perform at street level, guiding the float down the parade route. Six performers wearing costumes representing the six themed lands will mingle among the dancers.

The float will debut on September 10 at the grand opening parade of the 27th Shanghai Tourism Festival. Afterward, it will set out for a road show through several Shanghai districts from September 11 to October 6.
