Pre-exam fire safety inspection

FIREFIGHTERS yesterday checked fire alarms, sprinklers and safety equipment at 83 local schools where 51,000 students will take the Chinese Higher Education Entrance Examination today and tomorrow.

Facilities in nearby hotels temporarily housing students and their parents were also inspected.

Police will be deployed on nearby roads to manage traffic and control noise pollution, while firefighters will stand by for any emergencies.

An identity-checking system, surveillance cameras and a radio system have been set up to prevent cheating.

It is the first national college entrance exam to be held since an amendment was passed making organizing cheating a criminal offence.
