Officials from 12 British boarding schools in city to woo local students

OFFICIALS from 12 leading British boarding schools are in Shanghai to promote their institutes to local students.

They will introduce their schools to Chinese parents and students at a forum on Thursday at the Westin Bund Center Shanghai and hold face-to-face interviews with students.

Chinese students between the ages of 11 to 16 will be targeted.

The schools include Downe House, where the Duchess of Cambridge Catherine Middleton studied, and the King’s School, Canterbury, the oldest boarding school in UK with nearly 1,500 years of history.

“Bringing these British schools, who are all attracted by brilliant and hardworking Chinese students, to China can not only save time and money for Chinese families, but also can help schools better understand the cultural background of Chinese applicants,” said Raffaele Flackett, Great Britain Director of BE Education Group, organizer of the event.

All schools said they value extracurricular activities highly, while independence, adventurous spirit, passion for life and humor will be taken into consideration while recruiting students.

With Chinese families keen on sending their children abroad for primary education, BE Education Group said it will organize another event with four well-known British primary schools on October 28.
