Thieves are drawn by parcel piles
Parcels piled up outside residential complexes have proved too much of a temptation for thieves caught by police this month.
In Yangpu District on Sunday, a delivery company reported to police that over 50 parcels put outside a residential complex on Anbo Road for customers to collect had gone.
Checking street surveillance cameras, police spotted a man wearing a Freshippo uniform taking the parcels, opening boxes and stuffing contents into his backpack.
The man, surnamed Wang, was caught yesterday morning, and had confessed to stealing a Freshippo uniform and an e-bike to steal the parcels.
In Jing’an District, a man was caught on March 18 for stealing parcels from several residential complexes in the Pengpu Xincun area.
A woman reported on March 8 that her parcel of shampoo had been stolen. A man, surnamed Lin, was caught 10 days later and 153 stolen parcels were found at his home, police said.
