Symphony concert at new plaza near Disney Resort for invited guests

A symphony concert will be held at the newly-unveiled Maxus Plaza near the Shanghai Disney Resort on Sunday which will become the city’s largest outdoor theatre.

The first concert will be jointly performed by the Philadelphia Symphony Orchestra and the Shanghai Philharmonic Orchestra for the opening of the plaza within the Shanghai International Tourism and Resorts Zone, its operator the Shendi Group announced today.

The concert to start on Sunday afternoon will include the debut of the Overture of Spring 2016 which is composed by Chinese composer Gong Tianpeng for the grand opening of Shanghai Disneyland, the group said. The music combines the old local tunes like Night Shanghai and classic Disney Jazz music in 1940s. The first concert will be opened only to invited guests who contributed to the construction of the zone, the group said.

Another two concerts have been planned for construction workers for the Disneyland and the zone. After that, the public will be able to enjoy performances from global orchestras and art groups.

The plaza covering 90,000 square meters is beside the Wishing Star Park of the Disney resort. Apart from the outdoor theatre, it will also include a camp site for recreational vehicles for local families to experience the camping style, the group said.
