SHANGHAI'S Food and Drug Administration has announced that after reviewing the records of Shanghai Husi Food Company and searching its warehouses, more than 5,000 boxes of expired meat had been stored and sold to major American fast-food chains such as KFC and McDonald's.

Nine companies including KFC, McDonald’s and Burger King have used products ranging from beef, chicken and pork, from the Shanghai Husi Food Company. Investigators had found a significant amount of expired meat at the company's warehouse. Around 100 tons of the expired produce has been sealed, which will be examined as part of an ongoing investigation.

Earlier on Monday, operations at the Shanghai Husi Food Company were suspended and all of its meat products were ordered to be taken off the shelves.
