Power failure delays 13 bullet trains from Shanghai to Beijing

Thirteen high-speed trains leaving Shanghai for Beijing were delayed up to one hour today due to equipment malfunction on the railway section between Dingyuan and Bengbu in Anhui Province, the Shanghai railway authority said.

Some 13 trains leaving from Shanghai Hongqiao Railway Station to Beijing South Railway Station were delayed since 2pm. Trains like G109, G111, G113, G115 and G13 were delayed for one hour beyond their scheduled departure time.

The railway authority said the delays were caused by a malfunction of the power network covering the section in Anhui Province around 10:20am. Trains operating along the section, like the G32, suffered temporary power shortages. The air conditioner was also cut off inside the carriages of the G32 train.

Another five trains leaving Shanghai for Tianjin, Hangzhou and Zhengzhou were also delayed up to one hour. Thousands of passengers were left in the waiting hall of the Hongqiao Railway Station. By 4pm, most delayed passengers managed to get on trains.
