Oriental Pearl TV Tower warned by state watchdog to improve service for tourists

China's tourism watchdog today warned Shanghai Oriental Pearl TV Tower, as one of the city's most popular scenic spots, over a series of management loopholes that can lead to safety hazards.

The China National Tourism Administration said their undercover investigation in recent weeks found the tower is plagued with operational flaws such as lack of traffic control during peak periods, insufficient safety warning signs, as well as ineffectiveness in maintaining order.

Tourists are in disorder when taking escalator, and shops are poorly located for visitors, the watchdog said.

Five other popular travel resorts, such as Lijiang in southwest China's Yunnan Province, has received the same warning to improve.

The Shanhai Pass, as one of the major passes in the Great Wall, in Hebei Province, was disqualified for its title of the top-ranking travel spots in China, for price gouging and poor maintenance of public environment and sanitation.
