Li Jian and Szymanowski Quartet for Strings and Piano Concert

Szymanowski Quartet from Poland will join hands with US pianist Li Jian of Chinese origin this weekend, presenting a series of string quartets of Haydn, Mendelsohn and Brahms.

The concert will be staged at Shanghai Symphony Hall on October 24, as part of China Shanghai International Arts Festival.

Haydn’s “String Quartet”, Mendelsohn’s “String Quartet” and Brahm’s “Piano Quartet No.1 in G minor” will be presented.

Szymanowski Quartet composed of violinists Andej Bielow, Grzegorz Kotow, violist Vladimir Mykytka and cellist Marcin Sieniawski was established in Warsaw 1995, and becomes one of the world top quartets within the past dozen of years.

Pianist Li, as head of the Piano Department of Shanghai Conservatory of Music, has been a firm classic work interpreter throughout his career.

“All the classic works are masterpieces worth years’ effort for good interpretation,” says Li, “I personally won’t try cross-over works, as I don’t think I can do good in that field, and more importantly, not the type of music I appreciate and want to devote to.”

Li will also participate in an outdoor concert at Shanghai Urban Lawn on October 25. He will collaborate with other 24 Chinese pianists of Shanghai Conservatory of Music on 12 pianos. The concert is open to public for free.
