FUDAN University has removed a promotional video from its website and social media platforms after just one day, following claims that it plagiarized a Tokyo University publicity film.

However, the leading Shanghai university insisted its idea for the short film, released yesterday to mark its 110th anniversary, was original.

The 4-minute 50-second video, entitled “To My Light” shows a female graduate in a flight suit roaming about the campus and telling about her studies at the university.

But web users claimed that the video was similar to a 2014 Tokyo University video entitled “Explorer,” which features a woman in a spacesuit telling how she pursued her dream of working in the space industry.

“The video was removed from our official website, Wechat and Weibo accounts due to the controversy it has caused,” said Xiao Sijian, head of the university’s publicity department.
