Forum tells history of fight against Japanese aggression

A forum "Predecessors and City Memory" was held in Shanghai yesterday and participants heard the history of Chinese War of Resistance against Japanese aggression.

The history of Chinese soldiers fighting against Japanese in a fierce four-day battle around the Sihang Warehouse in 1937 was shared at the forum. Xie Jimin, son of the “800 heroes” leader, Lieutenant Colonel Xie Jinyuan, read a letter written by his father just before the Battle of Songhu, fought in Shanghai in 1937.

Chen Yixin, director of China International Friends Research Association, told about how his father Chen Heqin established 11 refugee schools with Zhao Puchu during war time and 5,000 students attended classes.

Pan Guang, head of the Jewish Studies Center at the Shanghai Academy of Social Sciences, told stories about the contributions of foreign friends such as Morris Cohen, a British and Canadian adventurer of Jewish origin who became aide-de-camp to Dr Sun Yat-sen and a major-general in the Chinese army.
