Five people of Shanghai Husi Food Co Ltd who were implicated in the expired meat scandal were detained today, local police said.

Those who have been detained included people in charge of the company and its quality manager, according to police. They did not immediately identify them.

The Shanghai Food and Drug Administration said yesterday that about 100 tons of food products from nine companies such as McDonald's, Pizza Hut, Burger King and Papa Johns had been sealed as the probe goes on. To date, 5,108 cases of processed beef, chicken and pork products were found to be made from expired raw materials at Husi's warehouse.
