First drum art festival to stage in Shanghai

SHANGHAI will host its first-ever international drum art festival on Friday.
The five-day festival will gather celebrated drum troupes from China, Indonesia, Singapore and Ethiopia to present traditional and creative drumming shows.
Shanghai Oriental Jiangzhou Drum Theater will stage its unique Shanghai-style drumming, which combines Jiangzhou percussion with modern elements.
Over the past decade, Shanghai-style drum art has been performed at more than 40 countries of the world.
Traditional drum art from Jiangzhou County, Shanxi Province was included on the list of the nation's intangible cultural heritage in 2006. In ancient China, the drums were usually played for sacrificial ceremonies, weddings, festivals and temple fairs.
