'Doctor Strange' gathering

BRITISH actors Benedict Cumberbatch, Tilda Swinton and American director Scott Derrickson gathered in the city today for their new offering "Doctor Strange."

The cast also walked the red carpet last night at the fashion hub Xintiandi.

The action-packed fantasy superhero film from Marvel Studios unveils a supernatural world of mystical powers with stunning visual effects.

It will hit cinemas across China on November 4 with both 3D and IMAX 3D versions, simultaneously with its release date in North America.

Cumberbatch, known for his portrayal of Sherlock Holmes in BBC's suspense series "Sherlock," plays Doctor Stephen Strange whose hands are damaged during a car accident. On his journey to find a way to restore his limbs, he finds himself endowed with magic.

During his sojourn in Shanghai, Cumberbatch also shared his views about the Chinese and British cultures on an online show.

Cumberbatch recalled that every day for the shooting was interesting while in the same time they worked very hard. The film in his eyes is a spectacle with common flavors to the whole world.

He added that the character of Doctor Strange is very different from detective Sherlock Holmes though both of them are quite clever.

"Doctor Strange is funny and charming, and he drives fast cars," Cumberbatch said.
