City embraces its earliest-ever ‘spring’ season yet chill will stay awhile

The city was hit by sleet this morning on the first working day after the holiday as strong cold front from the north arrived.
The sleet is expected to return in some parts of the city this evening, Shanghai Meteorological Bureau said.
Despite the sudden arrival of cold front, lasting warm days during the Spring Festival period has already brought the city into spring meteorologically. Spring has started on February 9 and it has become the city's earliest-ever spring according to local meteorological records.
However the temperature began to drop from Saturday afternoon under the influence of strong cold air from the north.
The low of Sunday morning ranged between 0 to 2 degrees Celsius, while the high is expected to reach about 6 degrees during day time, with strong wind gust.
The cold weather will stay until Monday with a low of 0 to minus 1 degree Celsius in downtown and a high of 5 degrees. The low in suburban area is expected to drop to minus 2 to minus 4 degrees.
The temperature will begin to rise from Tuesday daytime.
The bureau said though the city has entered meteorological spring, residents shall prepare for frequent weather changes recently, as cold front in the north is still active while warm air from the south has also begun to move.
