BAFTA scholarships available for China, UK students

FROM next year four Chinese and four British students will be offered scholarships to study film or television as an international student in either country, officials said at the three-day Great Festival of Creativity, which closed today.

According to the British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA), following the success of the scholarships in the UK, US and most recently Hong Kong, they are pleased to extend this opportunity to exceptional individuals across the Chinese mainland.

BAFTA chair Anne Morrison said film master classes will be given to introduce more good Chinese stories to British filmmakers to help them make movies for a global audience.

"Even if the story talks about your own culture, it can really resonate and speak to people in other cultures," said Morrison. "China is now the second-largest film market in the world. There will be an increase in film co-productions between China and UK. It is an exciting future."
