American Institute of Architects opens Shanghai office

The American Institute of Architects opened a China-based chapter and office in Shanghai yesterday.

“Opening this office in Shanghai is an important step in serving our Chinese and China-based architects and cultivating and expanding partnerships between AIA and China,” said AIA President Helene Combs Dreiling. “Having a permanent presence through the AIA Shanghai office will expand AIA?s engagement in the Chinese market and send a strong signal about our commitment to China.”

Founded in 1857, the American Institute of Architects now has around 100 members working in Shanghai, Dreiling said.

AIA Shanghai will focus on including expanding AIA membership in China, providing membership benefits, and serving as the voice of the architecture profession in Shanghai.

The Shanghai chapter is the only AIA office on China’s mainland and its sixth outside the US following those in continental Europe, the UK, Hong Kong, Japan and Middle East.
