Hornet attack
Eight tourists from Nanjing, Jiangsu Province, and a security guard were attacked by hornets in the Xixi Wetland Park last week.
The seven adults and two children, with ages between 9 to 51, were sent to the Hangzhou Traditional Chinese Medicine Hospital for treatment. The youngest is still in intensive care. The others have left hospital.
“Thirteen of us came to the Xixi Wetland around 1pm and we were waiting in a queue to enter the park when hornets attacked us. I had to run as fast as I could,” said a tourist surnamed Feng.
The 51-year-old was stung in the arms and in the back of his head. “It was like someone was pricking me with needles,” Feng said.
“Less than 2 percent of people attacked by hornets suffer serious consequences,” said a doctor at the hospital. “If you see a hornet nest, stay away from it. If hornets attacking you, try to cover up your head with clothing.”
The park has promised to pay for the tourists’ medical treatment.
