Electric bicycles
Hangzhou police are clamping down on traffic violations by electric bicycle riders and more officers and volunteers have been deployed at crossroads to enforce traffic rules.
Statistics show that more than 40 percent of traffic accidents reported last year involved electric bicycles. Of all traffic accident deaths in the city, 32.9 percent involved electric bicycles last year, doubling the 2006 figure.
Police said running red lights, driving in car lanes, driving in the wrong lane, and carrying a passenger were the four main causes of accidents.
